HOOTWIRE HISTORY

Hootwire kennels got its start in the late 70s with the aquisition of 'Ticker', a German Wirehair Pointer formally known as Am. Can. Mex. Ch. Tecolote Tic Tac Toe. Next, from Maine, came Am. Can. Mex. Ch. Buho Telocote Flight O' Maine C.D., aka 'Kashun'.

The subsequent breeding of these two became the foundation of Hootwire Kennels located at the time in Southern California. Over ten Hootwire GWPs completed their championships, with the majority being owner breeder handled. Several also earned their obedience titles and NAVHDA  prizes.

In 1986 we added a new breed at Hootwire. "Poacher' (Ch. Belray Sirhan Braconnier CD), a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. He has the distinction of being the first AKC titled dog. Aquiring breeding stock from England, France, and the United States, Hootwire pbgvs began a very successful breeding program, producing many AKC, CKC, FCI champions. In addition, we've seen many of our dogs make their mark as wonderful family pets. Along the way, we saw the PBGVs go from no U.S recognition (shown in Canada, Mexico, and U.S. rare breed shows), to AKC misc. classes and then finally on to full AKC recognition.

Missing the fun of the rare breed shows, we decided to add a Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, 'Bandit' (ARBA, World, Mex. FCI Ch. After-Our's Grand Larceny) to our group. She is a beautiful orange and white grand and has over 25 Rare Breed Best in Shows, as well as a Hound Group 2 at the World Show in Mexico. We are now in the process of importing a few more GBGVs into the U.S. with the hope of gaining AKC recognition.

In 1996 our first Spinone Italianos, 'Bryr', (Ch. Kevardu's Bryluen CD,NA, NJA) was imported from England. Bryr was the first Spinone to earn an agility title. 'Cera' (Am. Mex. FCI Ch. Cerebella del Caos JH) was added to the pack. AKC granted us full AKC status in 2001 and the race was on to qualify for the first Spinone breed judging at Westminister KC. Cera was the first Spinone bitch AKC champion and went down in the AKC history books as the first Spinone to win the breed at the Garden. She easily earned her JH title as well, and after a short show career was bred to Ch. Mals About Pelu, producing four pups. All four earned AKC Championships before turning a year and two were JH as well. After such wonderful pups, Cera and Pelu had eight more, and they look to be following in their footsteps.
